From age 5 Sherrie was taking lessons in Tap, Modern & Classical Ballet at Mary Geer Academy of Dance.

Over the following 7 years Sherrie attained the highest Honors results in every Tap examination and was awarded many dance scholarships in each style.

At age 12 whilst performing a Modern Jazz group routine at a local ballroom competition Sherrie fell in love with the style, grace, glamour and glitter of Ballroom.

Sherrie soon started with dancesport lessons and it wasn’t long before she was competing. Over the next 12 years Sherrie stayed loyal to coaches Adele Hyland & Tony Gauci and gained the success of winning every major title through the grades and major championships in all three styles of Dancesport.

Just to name a few of Sherrie’s titles are:

  • Australian Youth Ballroom Champion
  • Twice South Pacific Open Amateur Latin Champion,
  • Victorian Open Amateur Latin Champion
  • N.S.W. Open Amateur Latin Champion
  • National Capital Open Amateur Latin & Ballroom & 10 Dance Champion
  • Australian representative to the World Open Amateur Latin Championships
  • 18th in the inaugral British Open Amateur Latin Championships
  • Singapore Open Amateur Latin & Ballroom Champion
  • Thailand Open Amateur Latin & Ballroom Champion
  • Prince Mikasa Cup, Japan Amateur Latin Champion
  • Australian Open Amateur Latin Champion
  • Victorian Professional Latin Champion
  • Australian Professional Latin Champion

Some career highlights are:

  • Being awarded the Australian Sports Medal in recognition for services to Dancesport.
  • Performing centre stage in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games
  • Winning ‘back to back’ Australian Amateur Latin Champion one year and the Professional Latin the following year (it was many years since anyone had achieved that! – and the person prior was her own coach Tony Gauci – who was himself coached by Adele Hyland - winning back to back 7 years prior!)
  • Over the past 3 years touring America, Canada, Europe & Japan with “Burn The Floor”

Sherrie now enjoys training with her partner of 7 years Sandro Catalano and teaching at
